Need opinion... | Hotshot Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 7,529 High over the Front | Saving money up for my Python whose main use, at least to start, is going to be mining. Was doing some practice builds and I also looked at a couple of other builds folks had posted online. My question is the Collector Limpets. I was thinking about a controller that can do 4 at a time. Based on how quick two worked on a cut up asteroid it would seem fine to me. However in looking at some builds of others they have enough controllers for anywhere from 8 to 12 collection limpets out at a time. Is this a waste? Do I really need 10 or 12 collectors out at a pop? Guess if I was mining and keeping everything that might be workable but I don't know. If anyone has a Python build saved I wouldn't mind taking a look to see if I have the bases covered. | #4275994 - 07/05/16 02:33 AM Re: Number of Propector Limpets? Need opinion... My fitting is pretty much this: https://coriolis.io/outfit/python/0pftfF...Mining%20Python That 5B fuel scoop is my "flex" area. If I want to do some hauling for a CG or something, it is swapped for a cargo rack. This is rare, though. I find quad collectors are decently fast. Also, the weight of the Class 5 triple collector is just too high IMO, for just a single extra limpet (32 tons vs. only 8 tons for a Class 3 unit). So I never touch them. A typical mining trip for me starts with 60 to 80 limpets when I head out. Most are fired as Prospectors, with the Collector team out and at the ready most of the time. New build shamelessly stealing your ideas and suggestions. https://coriolis.io/outfit/python/0pftnF...Mining%20Python EDIT: In response to a couple of excited PM's I don't have a magic shipyard. The prices is the above build are using the Corolis feature showing a 15% discount. Gonna be shopping at a LYR system after all! It may be an oversight on that build page, but I'd make sure your "Hardpoints Retracted" power usage has a baseline power setup of 50% or less. I've never had my power plant targeted, but I play it safe for the day I do, lol. I'll be curious to hear what kind of results you get though! She will be upgraded, module wise, as money allows. And if try more then 4 collectors I will let you know NavyNuke. The plan is to start there. As for the enemy NPC's I am feeling pretty cocky. I did a restart for 2.1 so my combat rating is low (I will guess this is the reason) so enemy interdictions are rare. About 3 times and I have only been shot at once. Seems the interdiction mini-game got harder to beat though. | #4278850 - 07/14/16 03:54 AM Re: Number of Propector Limpets? Need opinion... Tonight I upped my usual loadout of 4 collectors to 7, using dual Class 3 controllers (2 limpets each) and a single Class 5 controller (3 limpets, and D rated for the lowest mass possible at 8 tons). Collection with 7 feels like double speed over 4. But, I feel like to make the best use (avoid wasting collectors while I prospect), I need to be less selective, and take more of whatever happen I find. And I do enjoy the hunt for those elusive motherlodes! On the whole however, I suppose any "waste" is minimal considering the lower cost of the limpets. Overall the hour of mining went well, collected more than 130 tons (I started with 80 limpets), which sold for $2+ million without any missions. So, worth experimenting and knowing how this setup performs. The downside is that the 8 ton 5D controller limpet lifespan and range shorter. But for the A rated model, the mass jumps to 32 tons. My Python can jump 31LY but that is (IMO) feels like a terrible waste of mass for just 3 limpets. I currently use 4 limpets but I tend to be a little selective in mining. Your the "more limpets out began mining everything to avoid waste" thinking is spot on. So yea 4 for me is a good number for general mining. If you could gaurentee me Painite in every rock then I would up it to 6 or higher. | #4278897 - 07/14/16 11:48 AM Re: Number of Propector Limpets? How you getting 31 LY jumps in the Python? Engineer stuff? | #4278936 - 07/14/16 01:54 PM Re: Number of Propector Limpets? Need opinion... I'm going to wait for the "fix" before doing any more. But I happened to get lucky on the required materials, so figured why not try it.
